Insects are the most diverse and abundant of all our animals and are essential to life on earth, with vital roles to play. Many, though, are seriously in decline; loss of habitat, climate change, pollution and more, have taken their toll. So there is no better time to come and find out about them, and what needs to be done to ensure their future.
The Insect Show is a popular annual event, and is held by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Entomological Society. DaNES has been exploring and recording the insect-life of these two counties for more than 100 years now, so has been able to see changes over time and highlight species which may be at risk. It has also been keen to inspire other folk's interest in insects and their conservation.
The event will be easy to find, as Brackenhurst Campus is right next to the A612 just south of Southwell. The Nottingham-Southwell bus stops outside, and for those coming by car there will be ample space for parking. There is also a lift by the entrance to the show, for those who wish to use it, making access easy for all.
So ... with plenty going on, a café for refreshments, and Brackenhurst's rural grounds to explore for some late-season insects ... come and make a day of it!
