Nottingham Central Library has information about the City of Nottingham specifically, and the County of Nottinghamshire generally.
In addition to census returns, parish registers, indexes, trade directories and Internet access to online resources, the collection includes one copy of virtually every book written about Nottinghamshire people, places and subjects. Also held are newspapers dating back to 1714, photographs, films and oral history recordings which provide a broad insight into the heritage of the area.
Libraries in the city of Nottingham and throughout the county have material relevant to their local area. Inspire: Culture, Learning, Libraries are an innovative new cultural organisation delivering services including libraries on behalf Nottinghamshire County Council. They are a Community Benefit Society that provide a range of cultural services, activities and events, inspiring participation in arts, reading, music and education.
All other County libraries can be found at nottinghamshire.gov.uk.
The Nottinghamshire Family History Society brings together people interested in family history research, helps in the preservation and indexing of local genealogical records, and copies and publishes such records.
Having previously used its website as the principal means of communication, the Society has recently established a Research Room at the National Justice Museum, Nottingham. Membership is inexpensive and very good value for the support and encouragement it brings.
