Sporting Heroes
We love sport in Nottinghamshire, and some of England's finest sporting stars are proud to call our county home.
Stuart Broad is one of English sport's most recognisable figures, and he was in inspirational form for England this summer - as he helped the team win the Ashes at Trent Bridge.
Then there's Torvill and Dean - the highest scoring figure skaters of all time who received perfect 6.0s at the Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olympics.
Brian Clough (Cloughie) is another magnificent sporting hero, who managed Nottingham Forest for 18 years. He created victorious Football League champions, Wembley winners and double European champions in 1979 and 1980. Cloughie's legend was revived in the film, I Believe in Miracles, and a prominent statue stands at Speaker's Corner in the Old Market Square.
These figures are only scratching the surface of our list of famous faces. Find out more about the lives and sporting achievements of our sporting alumni, by exploring pages below.
