Rufford Abbey Country Park

About

Rufford Abbey Country Park offers a perfect family day out, set in the heart of the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside. With free admission and a standard car park charge of £7.00, visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities, from scenic walks to seasonal events.

Steeped in history, the park is home to the remains of a 12th-century Cistercian monastery and former country house. As one of the key attractions within the Sherwood Forest area, it welcomes visitors year-round, offering a mix of nature, history, and family-friendly entertainment.

A stroll around the picturesque lake takes approximately 20 minutes, while those looking to explore further can visit the formal gardens, sculpture trail, or children's play area. The expansive grass area beside the abbey provides the perfect setting for picnics, games, and quality family time.

For those seeking adventure, the park features a large playground and a mini golf course, as well as archery and boating lake in summer. Visitors can also browse boutique shops or relax with a meal at one of the many dining options, including the Coach House Café, Ice Cream Parlour, Courtyard Pizza Van, and restaurant near the Abbey. The Shed, located by the playground, serves a selection of hot drinks and food, while Rufford Mill’s Teashop offers a charming spot to unwind.

Throughout the year, Rufford Abbey Country Park hosts a variety of seasonal activities, including themed children’s trails, White Post Farm visits, Punch & Judy shows, afternoon teas, brunches, special dining event evenings, Santa’s Grotto, and falconry displays.

To ensure accessibility for all visitors, wheelchairs are available for free loan, and electric mobility scooters can be hired for a nominal fee. Advance booking is recommended by calling 01623 677 688.
