Sherwood Pines

About

The East Midland’s forest playground!

Located to the north of Nottinghamshire, Sherwood Pines is one of the largest forests in the midlands to explore providing a stunning setting for your next adventure.

Sherwood Pines is one of the most popular destinations for mountain bikers in the region. You can improve your techniques on the skills loop before hitting the trails, then venture on to the fast-flowing Robin Hood blue-graded trail or the more challenging Outlaw red-graded route. If you’re out for your first ride in the forest the Maid Marion Family trail is a great option.  If you don’t have a bike the team at Sherwood Pines Cycle Centre can fix you up with a set of wheels!

Find the characters from the Gruffalo story or take a short walk to the Robin Hood Hideout play area. For those a little younger, the Mushroom Village play area is ideally located next to the visitor hub that is home to Go Ape, a café, toilets and the visitor information point. The Gruffalo is celebrating his 25th birthday in 2024 and to celebrate, everyone is invited to take part in a brand-new forest adventure on the Gruffalo Party Trail. Grab a pack from the Visitor Centre and get involved!

Why not try your hand at Disc Golf...Like golf but with discs. Surprisingly easy to get going and suitable for adults and children. Just like the other golf  you follow the nine hole course and get your disc in the baskets in as few throws as possible. You can hire discs at the visitor centre and there are no course fees, plus pre-booking isn’t needed. You’ll get into the swing of it in no time!

For those looking for something more sedate, the woodland is a secluded haven, perfect for calming walks away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You could even give forest bathing a go! Once all the fun is done, make sure you stop at Sherwood Pines Café for a refuel.

Sherwood Pines is open daily from 8am to 5pm (winter) and 8am to 10pm (spring/summer), admission is free although there is a car parking charge.

Whether you want to have a leisurely wander through the trees, get the kids to let off some steam at one of the play areas or go on a family bike ride or play a round of disc golf Sherwood Pines is bursting with opportunities.
