Walk 1: Workhouse to Minster (1.5 miles / 1-2 hours)
Starting at England's best-preserved workhouse, this walk takes you alongside a bubbling river bounded by a community orchard, before opening out onto Caudwell's imposing mill. Past the old railway station and onto Burgage Green, once home to Lord Byron. Now it's down through the charming, quaint and quirky town centre, past an unusual church, before ending at Southwell Minster with its distinctive 'pepperpot' spires.
Walk 2: Minster Circular (1 mile / 1 hour)
From the iconic Minster this walk leads you past some stunning Prebendal houses, before following a typical Southwell footpath – a rural interlude amongst widespread heritage. Onward next to the birthplace of the Bramley apple and an historic meadow, before seizing the opportunity to explore a glorious sensory garden, the ruins of The Archbishop's Palace, and the delightful grounds of the Minster itself.
Both walks are wheelchair and buggy friendly (marked diversions to avoid steps on the second walk are shown on the map).
