We’re celebrating having five finalists from Nottinghamshire in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence this year, after seeing a record number of entries from local businesses. These Awards celebrate the best of English tourism and promote healthy industry VisitEngland Awards Logocompetition and high standards.  The fact we have achieved so many finalists in Nottinghamshire shows we have a large number of local businesses that are passionate about quality and offering an excellent visitor experience. Our five finalists and the categories in which they are finalists are: • Galleries of Justice Museum – Small Visitor Attraction of the Year • Robin Hood Town Tours – Tourism Experience of the Year • Elemental Force (Experience Nottinghamshire/Visit Peak District & Derbyshire) – Tourism Event of the Year • Trent Bridge Ashes Test Matches – Tourism Event of the Year • Browns of Holbeck – Bed & Breakfast/Guest Accommodation of the Year We will have to wait until Monday 12 May 2014 for the Awards Ceremony at Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire, to find out whether they have won the Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended Award. Elemental Force was a unique series of events which told the story of folklore, conflict, upheaval, industrialisation and technological innovation in Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire and showcased the region’s remarkable heritage and areas of outstanding natural beauty -starting at Chatsworth House and including Nottingham Castle, Newark Castle and Derby Silk Mill. The Galleries of Justice Museum, based in Nottingham’s Shire Hall, incorporates an 18th/19th century goal, Victorian courtrooms, an Edwardian police station, dungeons, cafe and shop.  It offers visitors an atmospheric and interactive experience of three centuries of crime and punishment through costumed interpretation and audio guides as well as exhibitions, after dark ghost tours, terror tours, murder mysteries and medieval banquets. Trent Bridge, established as a cricket ground in 1838, hosted the first Investec Ashes Test for five days in July 2013.  Local hotels, entertainment venues, transport providers, bars and restaurants worked in partnership to provide an exceptional welcome and service to attendees and Trent Bridge is now looking forward to hosting the next Ashes Test Match in 2015. Browns of Holbeck has held VisitEngland’s 5 Star Gold Award for ten consecutive years this year. Visitors are guaranteed a warm welcome and a good friendly service at all times.  Guests from the three Garden rooms are welcomed into the owner’s 1730 cottage for their award-winning breakfast which includes locally sourced produce. Robin Hood is world renowned as Nottinghamshire’s most famous outlaw and Ade Andrews lives and breathes the character through his own creation, The Robin Hood Town Tour. Ade is passionate about Nottingham and the wider county, as well as giving tourists and locals the magical discovery they seek. Good luck to all our finalists!
