The Ghosting of Rabbie Burns comes to Nottingham

2. The Ghosting of Rabbie Burns comes to Nottingham

Saturday 20th January | The Belgrave Rooms | 4pm and 7.15pm | Tickets from £15

Time for the Lothario ghost of Scotland's Bard to learn some lessons in modern love... and ghosting! Enjoy a fantastic play, followed by a ceilidh after the evening performance.

18th Century Romance meets 21st Century Modern Dating in this critically-acclaimed hit comedy drama by Gillian Duffy. An intimate date with the writer of Auld Land Syne, which includes everything from love, dating, breakups and, most importantly, ghosting – what better way to kickstart your Burns Night celebrations?

Heartbroken author Emily Winters takes herself away to her aunt's old cottage in Ayrshire, Scotland, to get over her cheating ex. As she celebrates Burns Night alone (wishing that the right man would show up), she gets a visitation slightly different than what she'd hoped for. The ghost of Robert Burns appears to give her some dating advice – and he knows what he's talking about.

Featuring the great songs and poems of Burns, such as 'My Love is Like a Red Red Rose', 'Ae Fond Kiss', 'Charlie is my Darlin' and of course 'Auld Lang Syne', this hilarious comedy proves that love and relationships haven't changed that much in 200 years after all.

The Krampus is coming back to Sherwood Forest. After visiting the forest for the last two winters, the Whitby Krampus Run is returning this January and bringing these intriguing mythological creatures from medieval European folklore to life.

Meet the Krampus on Saturday: As you explore Robin Hood’s majestic greenwood, you will have the chance to meet and mingle with the Whitby Krampus Run along Sherwood’s trails, and find out more about the origins of this curious Alpine cultural icon.

Lantern parade on Saturday afternoon: As dusk falls on Saturday, the Krampus will gather together at the iconic Major Oak.  Visitors can see them there and then set out on a lantern parade back to the Visitor Centre.

Krampus krafting: Bring a torch or make your own crafted lantern in our Welcome Area with materials and instructions provided for just £3.

Parade to the Major Oak and wassailing ceremony on Sunday: On Sunday, make a bird-seed shaker in the Visitor Centre and join the Sheriff of Nottingham on a noisy parade to the Major Oak, sending the Krampus back to the snowy Alps.

The Sheriff will lead a traditional wassailing ceremony, proclaiming good health for the year ahead for Sherwood Forest’s wildlife and ancient oak trees.

There will be dance and theatre too with the Calverton Real Ale and Plough Play Preservation Society performing a traditional – and, no doubt, hilarious – mummers play.
