Summer is here and what better way to soak up the long, balmy nights than a spot of outdoor cinema!
Everyone loves a sing-a-long and we chose to see Mama Mia this weekend at Lime Lane Woods; a real crowd pleaser and my young daughter’s favourite. The films being screened this summer are great feel good films from The Greatest Showman right through to Hairspray and Dirty Dancing. Happy films to while the night away under the stars!
We arrived at Lime Lane Woods, also home to the fantastic Notts Maze, about an hour prior to the start of the film. There is ample parking on site so no panic about where to park the car or parking charges. With the corn fields swaying in the breeze on the approach to the woods, it’s not hard to relax and leave your troubles at the gate! A peaceful environment, set away from the hustle bustle of the city, a unique place to be. We were lucky that it was a warm, dry evening and as we pulled up we were immediately surrounded by lots of excited chatter from other cinema goers making their way into the woods to set up their spot for the evening.
There’s a great set up on site from a bar serving anything from hot and soft drinks, snacks, right through to beer and prosecco on tap! Popcorn and handmade wood fired pizza, courtesy of Kindred Spirit pizzas, make for a great accompaniment for any movie night as well. The smell of the wood fire deliciously rose through the air making it impossible to resist. We took the option of pre-ordering our pizza via the website to make sure that we didn’t have to queue to order or have a long wait for dinner. This was genius, especially with children in tow, as they are not known to be the most patient of creatures.
Wandering along the woodland path, all lit and twinkling prettily with fairy lights, made for a magical setting. We came armed with blankets and camping chairs and picked a great spot, right underneath the parachute canopy deep into the woods. There is plenty of space for cinema goers and the canopy of trees provides a fantastic natural shield from the elements too as we found out later in the evening when the wind rose but we remained cosy in our woodland bubble watching our film.
I don’t need to tell you about Mama Mia, as the film is just pure feel good and gives holiday vibes from the very start. From start to finish the audience, from children to adults were in joyful spirits, with lots of moonlit singing throughout! There are some great films coming up too, and I highly recommend this great place for a night at the flicks but with a difference! Next up on Saturday 13th August is Hairspray, followed by Mama Mia 2, Pretty Woman and the iconic Dirty Dancing to round the screenings off in September. So grab your friends, dig out the camping chairs, pack the popcorn and book your tickets today.

But, don’t think that’s it, the guys at Notts Maze are literally set to delight you with much more this year including Save the Rave promising to be the biggest 90’s outdoor festival of the season plus the Look-A-Like Festival on 24th and 25th September. The scare fest that is the Labyrinth will return once more to give Halloween chills to all brave enough to enter the corn maze this October whilst the littlest of the family will be charmed by the popular Tricker Treat Maze Farm, with lots of craft activities for the family. The year will culminate with the eagerly awaiting second Bonfire Bonanza with a firework display, live music and much more on 4th November, rounding the year off with a bang!
