Located conveniently on the gateway to the Lace Market, opposite Nottingham Contemporary and just down the road from the National Justice Museum, the Head of Steam is ideally located to compliment your visit to the city. Owned by Camerons Brewery, specialising in both cask ale and craft beers and serving up great food, everyone’s up for a brew-tiful time so be sure to add it to your itinerary of things-to-do in Nottingham. Chris - I’ll keep mine succinct; I went for the review and have since been back twice in the last two weeks under my own steam (no pun intended). It’s a really lovely place both during the day and after work, unpretentious, friendly and very well furnished/designed too. Both meals I’ve eaten have hit the spot (a steak and a pie if you’re interested), the coffee is great and clearly the range of the beer offering surpasses most elsewhere in the city. Give it a go!
Alex – As a die-hard cocktail and pizza fan, I was in my element at Head of Steam. I liked the bar/restaurant as soon as we arrived – the atmosphere was really chilled out, thanks to the awesome music (being played at just the right volume might I add – usually in bars you end up having to scream at each other to be heard!), comfy seating and homely décor. It took us all a good few minutes to decide on what drink to order as the drinks menu is probably the most extensive I’ve ever seen! I decided on a Raspberry Chew cocktail and it was amazing. Super sweet, which is what I love in a drink and it almost had a creamy texture to it, which was a nice surprise. At only £6.50 too, it was great value.
We ordered a few different starters, again from a fantastically extensive menu and the highlights for me were the nachos and red pepper hummus with rosemary and olive oil flatbread. When it came to mains, there was only ever going to be one choice for me: pizza. There was however some stiff competition as there’s so many delicious sounding options on the menu. I had the BBQ pulled pork and herb oil pizza and it did not disappoint – plenty of cheese, a rich tomato sauce base and oodles of moist pulled pork. It was a massive pizza too, so I reckon with a couple of sides, two people could happily share one.
I’m looking forward to returning to Head of Steam and working my way through the cocktail menu and trying every pizza! I’m well up for trying a pie there too…
Sarah – From the moment I walked through the doors at the new Head of Steam and saw dogs in the bar I had a smile on my face. Such a warm welcome, I’ve never been to a more-classy venue with restaurant where dogs are ‘chilling’ alongside the after-work gang, the beautiful people, visitors exploring the city and the ale lovers. There’s definitely something for everyone at Head of Steam including the options on the new food menu.
I chose to tuck into nachos which were a really generous portion and came with a particularly good salsa followed by the salmon which was marinated in harissa washed down by Timmermans’ Oude Kriek Lambicus – which was a delicious and refreshing cherry beer. I found the drink options slightly overwhelming, there’s so much to choose from but wasn’t disappointed by my choice. It was also refreshing to have so much space in-between the dining tables on the first floor, it made it easier to chat and made for a really relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back!
Kinga – I really love the relaxed atmosphere at Head of Steam and the fact that you can bring your four-legged friend with you makes it even more special and inviting. There’s a nice variety of both soft and alcoholic drinks with fruit beers topping my list of favourites. Out of the selection of starters we tasted I really enjoyed the nachos with a generous portion of toppings and sauces. I chose to go for a classic main course – fish and chips with mushy peas and it was very tasty. I almost finished it all, but the portion was very generous so had to leave behind a few chips. I will definitely take my friends to Head of Steam so they can try their delicious food and a variety of drinks as well – sharing is caring.
Without further ado, we recommend making a reservation at Head of Steam. Ideal location, wonderfully warm welcome, even great tunes on the playlist! We’ll definitely be back.
