The William Booth Birthplace and Salvation Army Community Centre will be celebrating Nottingham Light Night, 10th February 2017, with a range of fun, free events for the whole family from 4.00-8.30pm. There will be candlelight museum tours, live music, refreshments, a drop-in art workshop and illuminated sculpture. Everyone is welcome!

“This is the first time the Museum and Community Centre will open for Light Night and it looks set to be a memorable event, with something for everyone,” according to Museum Curator, Julie Obermeyer. Starting at 4pm, when the sun starts to set, the museum will run the first of four candlelight tours (tours at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm and 7pm). In the Community Centre next door, local artist Anna Roebuck will lead an all-ages art workshop using recycled material from 4pm and Nottingham Academy Primary’s choir will perform a new set of songs from 4.15-4.45pm. Refreshments will be available all evening and members of Nottingham’s Salvation Army Band will delight audiences with the sounds of brass from 6pm onwards. Anna Roebuck’s larger-than-life illuminated sculpture will bring the museum courtyard to life – and light. The Museum is also a stop on the ‘Sneinton Light Night Trail’ (along with Sneinton Market and Dance4). Collect a ‘Sneinton Light Night Trail’ card on site, get it stamped at all three venues and get entered into a special prize draw! The William Booth Birthplace Museum and The Salvation Army Community Centre are located near Green’s Windmill, at 14 Notintone Place, Sneinton, Nottingham NG2 4QG – at the junction of Sneinton Road and Notintone Street (take the walkway to the right of the row of shops on Sneinton Road to access the site). The museum is the birthplace of William Booth, founder of The Salvation Army, a church and charity currently working in 128 counties. The site is completely accessible and toilet facilities are available. The Museum will only be open for tours and tours are limited to 15 people. Tours are free but booking is required. Tours last approximately 45 minutes and are suitable for ages 8+.
