Rising comedy star Matt Forde is returning to his home town of Nottingham for a show at the city's Glee Club on 15 September. Matt will be launching his very own political comedy show, 'Unspun', on the Dave TV channel in September also. We caught up with him to find out more about this local boy and what he loves about coming back to Nottingham.
You are known for your political comedy, have you always had an interest in politics?
Sadly, yes, since the age of about 7 and then properly from the age of 15. I like football as well though and pasties so I'm not a completely lost cause.
What can audiences expect from your show when you perform in at the Glee Club in Nottingham?
Nothing short of non-stop hilarity and side-splitting comedy. Or something like that. I do quite a few impressions so they'll be in there, but I can't promise I'll be able to do Theresa May by then.
How has the ‘brexit’ vote impacted on your show? Does it lend itself to even more laughs than a remain vote might have?
It's meant I've had to rewrite the entire thing! In an odd way yes, there is more comedy in Brexit because it's the chaotic option so there's more going on. Which is also terrifying.
You’re originally from Nottingham, where are your favourite places to visit when you’re here?
The City Ground, even if there's not a game on. I just love looking at the place, it's magical.
My mum's house, always guaranteed a warm welcome and good food although I realise that may only apply to me.
Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, The Royal Children, The Salutation, Pitcher and Piano, The Social... so many good pubs and bars. I'm trying to think which others I like. Oh, Pit and Pendulum, The Bell, Horn in Hand... I need to come back and just do a pub crawl around town. Probably after the gig rather than before.
Do you have a favourite place to go for a post-gig pint when performing in Nottingham?
I know I've listed a load of pubs already but I deliberately left one off that's near the Glee - The Canalhouse! What a beautiful pub. Lovely in the summer, sat out on the decking next to the canal. It's great for after a gig as well because I seem to remember it stayed open a bit later. Or maybe I started early. I can't remember but it's a special pub.
