Our guest blogger Elisia Denton recently dined at Marco Pierre White's Steakhouse Bar & Grill at Nottingham's Alea Casino...
The end of summer had arrived rather prematurely for my liking and my friend and I were looking for an evening to cheer us both up. We wanted to treat ourselves to good food, good wine and a bit of something different to finish the evening off. Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill Nottingham and Alea Casino certainly delivered on all parts, under one roof and at the right price.
Upon arrival we were seated at a comfortably sized table for two and my eyes were immediately drawn to the unique artwork on the walls that complemented the stylish decor of the restaurant very well. Little did I know this meal was going to turn out to be somewhat educational as the evening began with a delightful waiter called Edward, captivatingly talking us through his impressive display board of the many different cuts of steak MPW had to offer. Not only did he do a fantastic job informing us on the taste and experience each cut would bring, he had personality and kept us engaged far longer than I thought the tray of meat would as I saw it approach.
Delcenia was our fabulous waitress for the evening and she did not fail to carry on the high standards that Edward had already set. Once the appetizer she had recommended came out, honey and wholegrain mustard chorizo bites, my trust was sealed with her for the rest of the evening. A combination that I initially wasn’t sure would work turned out to be a delectable delight that I must recommend! She was charming, friendly and exactly the kind of waitress you want looking after your table. As somebody who is often a challenge to waitresses’ patience, with my indecisiveness when ordering and general picky eater habits, I am happy to say Delcenia dealt with everything fantastically. Nothing was ever too much, her recommendations continued to impress and were tailored to my tastes. She really knew both the food and the wine menu in-depth and her exemplarily service add to an enjoyable evening.
I started with a cocktail of prawns which arrived in all their glory and most importantly tasted great. My Venison was pan fried to perfection with the Andean Vineyard Malbec making the ideal accompaniment- again recommended by our lovely waitress. By the time we got round to dessert I was truly stuffed so opted for a scoop of refreshing bucks fizz sorbet and a tantalising raspberry sorbet that was a treat for the taste buds. My friend had a little more room left than I and ordered the chocolate brownie with clotted ice cream which she devoured and assured me was incredible. Overall the dining experience was positively perfect and I would certainly recommend it for numerous occasions. MPW is great for couples, friends and work nights out- especially with their all in Menu for £35pp which includes 3 courses and casino chips for afters.
We were lucky enough to have Edward give us a guided tour of the casino after our meal and there is certainly plenty to do in there. It offers that taste of Las Vegas right at home in the heart of Nottingham. It even has its own hidden bar! The atmosphere was great and I threw myself into the gambling with a winner’s mentality...only to lose my chips pretty quickly at the roulette table. Even with the small end of the night loss it was a fabulous evening and I will most certainly be going back again!
