If you love to sample the variations in culture and learn more about nations through the medium of art, then the New Art Exchange must be towards the top of your to-do list. The gallery, located opposite the Forest Recreation Ground on Gregory Boulevard, is home to exhibitions and events that celebrate culture in its broadest aspects.
While visiting the New Art Exchange might primarily be with the aim of seeing the
exhibits, I would also thoroughly recommend its food and drink offering in the cafe bar. I recently paid the team at the gallery a visit to give the food a whirl at lunchtime to satisfy my Friday hunger.
The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, as you would expect in an art gallery. There's plenty 
of seating and several comfy sofa's dotted around for groups of visitors to sit and enjoy their meals. The choice of food is brilliant, especially when you consider this is a cafe in a gallery - you're not limited to a couple of sandwiches and a cake here by any means! Whether you fancy a breakfast, served until 11.30am, a light lunch or warm and satisfying main meal, you're bound to find something on a menu you might be forgiven for expecting to find in a city centre restaurant. My dish of choice was the grilled halloumi ciabatta with orange chutney and tomatoes; served with a generous portion of salad and crisps. Couple it with a hot latte and it made for a really hearty lunch which was fresh and filling. All the food is freshly prepared and you can tell. Also, I am a sucker for cheese, especially halloumi, so the perfectly grilled Cypriot cheese in my ciabatta made for, in my world - the dream filling in a perfect lunchtime meal.
Of course when you're finished eating, I would recommend exploring the exhibitions on display at the New Art Exchange. In September, it's worth making a note of the impending Mela Festival - a three day celebration of culture and dance which not only takes over the New Art Exchange but makes appearances in city centre venues such as Nottingham Playhouse and Nottingham Castle.
