£16m Harvey Hadden Sports Complex development complete

Nottingham's sporting prowess is there for all to see and visitors to the city, as well as local residents, will soon be able to enjoy world class facilities on their doorstep, helping them keep fit and stay active. Harvey Hadden Sports Village has undergone a £16 million redevelopment and the end result is an impressive one. Fitness fanatics, beginners and the younger generation - who might see themselves as budding future Olympians - will love the new facilities on-site, as Nottingham gets ready for the official opening of the complex on the 1st of September. From the 6th - 16th August, Harvey Hadden's new sports facilities are being put to the test with the arrival of the 2015 CPISRA Cerebral Palsy World Games. The world's eye is upon the multi-million pound site as it hosts a prestigious event that includes swimming, football, athletics and much more. Ahead of the games, and the impending launch of the site to the general public in September, I took a trip to Harvey Hadden as the press clambered to get a glimpse of what was to come for Nottingham as it adds to its impressive sporting portfolio. A brand new, state-of-the-art Olympic size swimming pool greets you to the left of the main entrance, with seating for up to 300 spectators, a digital screen with a clock to help you time your lengths and an adjustable pool floor; allowing the pool to be either a single 50m pool or two 25m pools. If you're a gym buff, then the new gym facilities with treadmills, bikes and weights should help you keep in shape. There's also several new fitness studios, with various classes held on a weekly basis. The sports hall, which stood here before, has had a lick of paint and a new floor - with added markings to allow for more sports and activities to take place within it. At the rear is a 60m indoor running track to stretch those limbs and test your sprinting abilities. Moving through the interior of the complex, one fantastic touch is a corridor dedicated to the history of local sport and Nottingham's proud swimming company Speedo; who've signed a 5 year partnership - allowing them naming rights on the pool and the chance to have a shop in the main entrance - where you can purchase all your essential swimming gear. Off this corridor, you will also find three modern squash courts with adjustable walls to allow for doubles matches, changing facilities and a steam room/sauna if you fancy relaxing and pampering yourself after a tough workout. The improvements don't stop inside either, with an additional lane added to the running track to take it up to 8 lanes - this means records can now be officially set on this track. And, finally, there's the addition of a 1.5km closed road cycling circuit if you fancy yourself as the next Bradley Wiggins. All the developments are impressive and add to Nottingham's already strong sporting offer. It's a sports complex that adds another sting to the Nottingham bow and enables the city to welcome world-class events such as the 2015 CPISRA World Games to the city - which can only be a positive. Harvey Hadden Sports Complex officially opens to the public on the 1st September 2015 and will be perfect for professional and novice sportsmen and women alike - so make sure you take advantage of this state of the art complex if you're thinking of keeping fit and active.
