Clumber Park Hotel and Spa afternoon tea

Sitting directly opposite the majestic Clumber Park, in the heart of the Dukeries, Clumber Park Hotel and Spa is the perfect retreat for anyone looking for a relaxing meal, spa day or weekend away. This time, however, my visit was to sample the afternoon tea menu, which will be available in the Courtyard Restaurant every Friday, starting tomorrow. After making my way through the beautifully-designed reception area, I was greeted by one of the friendly waitresses who showed me to the bright Courtyard Restaurant which overlooks the pretty garden at the centre of the hotel. After settling down at the table, it wasn't long before plates of delicious sweet and savoury treats began to arrive on tiered blue-and-white China cake stands. At Clumber, afternoon tea is all about English classics and I was soon tucking into dainty finger sandwiches with fillings such as smoked salmon and crème fraiche and honey-glazed ham and mustard. You can also choose from coffee or a fine selection of teas including peppermint, Earl Grey and Assam - however I was in the mood for a traditional English breakfast tea which arrived in a matching blue-and-white tea pot. Feeling suitably refreshed it was time to start devouring the the wonderful array of cakes. There were plain and fruit scones served with jam and devilish clotted cream, delicious pastries topped with strawberries, tiffins and light lemon drizzle cakes. Of course, I wanted to try everything but my appetite eventually began to wane. I needn't have worried though - the waitress kindly packed up everything that was left so I could enjoy them when I got home. The afternoon teas at Clumber Park Hotel and Spa are ideal for birthdays, a hen-do or celebrations with friends and family and can be tailored to individual tastes. Look out too for themed afternoon teas over the spring and summer. Afternoon tea costs £14.95pp and is available every Friday, starting on 3rd April, in the Courtyard Restaurant.
