Some of Nottinghamshire's best-loved museums, galleries and heritage sites will be opening their doors to the public after hours as part of the nationwide Culture24's Museums at Night festival which takes place between 15th and 17th May.
Visit the home to the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham, after hours (15th May, 5.30pm – 7.30pm)… The Galleries of Justice Museum will bring Nottingham’s horrible history to life when the museum is normally closed with a unique celebration of A Night at the Museum. Step back in time as costumed characters lead you through the corridors and dungeons of the old County Gaol and tell tales of a bygone era on this special celebration of heritage – perfect for a family evening out.
Admission: £5 per person.
Learn how to be a great ghost hunter with acclaimed author, Jonathan Stroud (16 May, 7pm – 9pm)... A great family-friendly event awaits you at West Bridgford Library, with special guest Jonathan Stroud. If you dare, visit the library after closing time and get creative with the author of the thrilling Lockwood & Co series, including his latest ‘The Screaming Staircase’ and get some great tips on how to write your own ghostly tale.
Admission: £4 per person, Family ticket £12 (2 adults and 2 children).
Explore outdoors at the oldest and largest area of Victorian detached gardens in the UK (16 May, 6pm – 8pm)... During the evening of the 16th May, meander and view the images taken during the day by internationally renowned photographer Rankin, who will also be around during the event. A magical experience awaits you at the Heritage Garden as you witness historical St Anns Allotments at night. Due to the unique nature of this heritage site, capacity is extremely limited – this is why spaces have been booked up extremely quickly. [UPDATE: This event has now SOLD OUT]
Solve murder mysteries and become a top detective at The Workhouse (16 & 17 May, 6.30 – 8.30pm)... Visit popular National Trust property, The Workhouse, during the festival and get involved in their murder mystery story walk. As you tour the Workhouse with the pauper guide, listen to the suspect's alibi before deciding who you think killed the clerk.
Admission: Adults £10, Children £5 (suitable for over 12-years-old).
