View over Southwell Minster: The view as you drive into the pretty market town of Southwell is one of the favourites in Nottinghamshire, with the twin spires of Southwell Minster rising above the greenery and skyline of the town. View of Newark Castle across the River Trent: Fierce battles were fought in the market town of Newark during the English Civil War, and much of it was damaged or destroyed including Newark Castle. The Castle has stood proudly on the banks of the River Trent for nearly 900 years and is an ideal spot to see the Castle in all of its glory. The Major Oak in Sherwood Forest: England’s most famous tree, the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest, is associated with the legend of Robin Hood, and is said to have been the hideout for Robin and his Merry Men. With its age estimated at between 800 and 1,000 years old, the impressive canopy is a must see for visitors in Nottinghamshire. View from Nottingham Castle: Nottingham Castle is situated on a rocky outcrop with fantastic views across the city of Nottingham. From the Castle terrace, enjoy a sweeping view which takes in the city’s skyline, historic Trent Bridge cricket ground, football grounds for Nottingham Forest and Notts County football clubs, the River Trent and the iconic sails of Green’s Windmill. View across the lake at Newstead Abbey: This 12^th Century monastery is a former ancestral home of the romantic poet Lord Byron. Its impressive facade is best viewed from the far side of the lake in its extensive grounds. Lime Tree Avenue at Clumber Park: The longest avenue of lime trees in Europe can be found at National Trust property Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire. Stretching for over two miles, as the frost settles on the naked branches, the glistening sight is not to be missed! Across the Lake at Wollaton Hall: Nottinghamshire’s beautiful Victorian mansion, Wollaton Hall, is set in the picturesque grounds of Wollaton Park, a 500 acre deer park. One main focus of the site is the magnificent lake which offers a home to many ducks and is surrounded by damp woodland. The view of Wollaton Hall from across the opposite side of the lake is stunning. View of Old Market Square looking at the Council House: A focus for locals and visitors, the square is the largest public space in the UK after London’s Trafalgar Square, and it’s a major hub for the city’s social scene and transport links.
