With the weather cooling down, now is the time to get cosy inside with a nice cup of tea and a generous piece of cake.
Homemade Cafe in Nottingham is known as a haven for cake lovers, and it takes a will of steel to walk past its inviting window display without being drawn in for a piece of cake.
We were lucky enough to sample some of the cakes recently for an office taste test (it’s a tough job...). We had four cakes to try: Blueberry Sponge, Carrot Cake, Flapjack and a Brownie. Homemade is known for having the best Brownies in Nottingham, so our expectations were high! We certainly weren’t disappointed. Here’s what the team had to say...
Blueberry Sponge:
“A generous wedge of sponge reminiscent of good old fashioned home baking. A summery flavour, with delicate blue hues and the most delicious creamy frosting. 8/10.” – Lynzi
“Yummy and zesty scrummy! Moist, lots of blueberries with a fresh cream cheese topping. Give me more! 10/10.” – Sarah
“Cake was soft and a really nice sweet taste of blueberry. 7/10.” – Dale
Carrot Cake:
“An individual stamp on a carrot cake, not like any I have tasted before. The flavours, although subtle, made an impact. Once again, the frosting was the winning element for me. 7/10.” – Lynzi
“Awesome....all elements working to bring the taste love. 10/10.” – Keith
Flapjack:
“Right level of chewiness. Plenty of juicy fruit. Lost a few marks for being slightly on the dry-ish side however that’s most probably a personal thing. 7/10.” – Sarah
“One of the better flapjacks I have tasted! Great texture and plenty of fruit thrown in. 8/10.” – Erin
Brownie:
“Moist chocolate icing and slightly bitter chocolate after taste. It went down really well. 9/10.” – Dale
“Loved how chocolatey this was, perfect with a hot drink. Give me more! 9/10.” – Erin
