Museums at Night: Culture24’s festival of inspiring after-hours cultural events in museums, galleries & heritage sites.
After a rush of visitors throughout the day, the doors to many museums and galleries close not long after five o’clock, locking away their secrets for another evening.
On the 17 & 18 May however, several attractions in Nottinghamshire will be welcoming visitors after-hours as part of, Museums at Night; a cultural initiative by Culture24.

6pm-9pm, Friday 17 May
Visit this charming 1920s town house in north Nottinghamshire on Friday to learn more about life during World Wars I and II. Take a tour of the museum by torchlight, and hear about life for the Straw family during the wartime. Rationing refreshments will be provided too, including cakes and drinks based on rationing ingredients.
Prices are £6.90 (adults) £3.50 (children)

Night at the Museum, Galleries of Justice Museum, Nottingham
5:30pm-7.30pm, Friday 17 May
Enjoy 'A Night at the Museum' at the Galleries of Justice Museum on Friday, and see objects and statues come to life! You’ll be greeted by costumed characters and treated to an inspiring performance in the Victorian Courtroom.
Discover Nottingham’s horrible history at this family-friendly event.
Tickets are £5 per person.
Twilight Storytelling at The Workhouse, Southwell
6:30pm-8:30pm, Saturday 18 May
On Saturday, the most complete Victorian Workhouse in existence invites you to experience the unique atmosphere of the Workhouse as the light fades, candles are lit and the paupers prepare for the night ahead.
Prices are £6 (adult) and £3.50 (child). Pre-booking is essential.
DIY Live Zoetrope Workshop with Mat Collishaw, Backlit Gallery, Nottingham
7pm-10pm, Saturday 18 May 
For Museums at Night 2013, Backlit will be hosting a special evening with famous Nottingham-born artist Mat Collishaw.
Mat will be directing a Live workshop with local artists and the public producing Zoetropes made from everyday objects.
Mat Collishaw is a critically acclaimed artist working predominantly in photography and is one of the Young British Artists – a group of artists including Tracy Emin and Damien Hirst. Mat Collishaw attended Trent Polytechnic, now Nottingham Trent University, between 1985 and 1986, before he graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College London in 1989.
Tickets are FREE, but please reserve your tickets in advance.
