We're back for another Spotlight event, welcoming emerging musicians to the stage! This month we are joined by Marco Woolf, a skilled storyteller known for his introspective and insightful lyrics, and LAOD, who approaches music with a spirit of curiosity and play, drawing from gospel and jazz roots
Marco Woolf
Marco Woolf's music can prove complex to categorise, his lyrics introspective and insightful – earning him a reputation as a self-evidently skilled storyteller – though thoughtful instrumentation too is just as crucial to his compositions, clearly considered to ensure it possesses comparable weight to his wording.
His most recent release, Francine, I – a narrative-led EP was described as "light, complex, rich and immediate, swarming with micro-details that multiply with each new listen" (Pan African Music Magazine), perfectly typifying the trademark one-two punch of tenderness that makes Marco's music so transcendent. A limited 12" run sold out within 24 hours and the release was critically praised earning support on BBC 6Music, Jazz FM and other international radio stations.
Line up
Marco Woolf – vocals guitar
Lucy-Anne Daniels, Anna Mcluckie, Ellen Beth Abdi – vocals
Tom Harris – piano, clarinet, percussion
LAOD
Drawing from her gospel and jazz roots, LAOD approaches music with a spirit of curiosity and play. Blending her rich tone with dynamic vocal effects (inspired by artists like Moses Sumney and Theo Bleckmann), she uses electronic pedals and live looping to create a musical experience, where vivid storytelling and emotional expression are at the centre.
Line up
LAOD (Lucy-Anne Daniels) – vox
Julien Durand – guitar + pedals
