Do you want to try the thing that launched the comedy careers of performers like Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Mike Myers, Amy Poehler, Paul Merton, Colin Mochrie and more? Just want to try something completely different? How about boosting your confidence and meeting some new people? Fancy some inspiration for all the other aspects of your life? Why not give improv a whirl this Thursday!
Since 1998, MissImp has been Nottingham’s home for improvised comedy theatre (or “improv”), putting on shows, courses, and weekly workshops to give everyone in Nottingham the opportunity to have fun, get on stage and perform!
What is Improv?
Improv (sometimes “impro”) is making stuff up on the spot. The audience offer a suggestion and our performers use that to inspire scenes, songs, games, and even whole shows – it’s great fun to do, and hilarious to watch.
Improv began as a fun tool for actors and theatre students to build characters and shows, and evolved over the years into an artform in its own right. Now, thousands of people take up improv every year in dedicated improv theatres around the world!
Improv is for everyone!
You don’t need any experience in improv, acting, comedy, or performance to get on stage and have a blast! Teamwork and collaboration are at the heart of improvisation, which means you’ll never be alone on stage because you’re always backed up and supported by your scene partners: together you’ll make something wonderful that will have the audience in stitches!
Weekly Workshops!
MissImp provides drop-in workshops every Thursday evening (and has done since 2005!), which are the perfect opportunity to try improv for the first time. Run by experienced improvisers from the Nottingham community, they create a safe, supportive space for folks to come along, feel free to be silly, explore improv, and have fun. For more information on their weekly drop-in workshops, check out MissImp's website.
Structured Courses!
MissImp run a variety of structured courses for all levels of ability from complete beginners to equipping experienced performers with advanced performance tools! Their courses run throughout the year. Find out when the next course begins on MissImp's website.
Shows!
MissImp support a variety of performance teams who bring improvised comedy theatre to venues around Nottingham, the East Midlands, and beyond! MissImp have a seasonal residency at Nottingham Playhouse; a monthly show at The Playwright showcasing great improv acts from around the UK as well as homegrown talent; a monthly show at NonSuch Studios on a different theme each month, and many more events throughout the year.
