121 reviewsD.H. Lawrence was born here, at 8a Victoria Street in 1885, the first of the Lawrence family’s four Eastwood homes.
Today you can visit this authentically recreated miner’s cottage, birthplace of world renowned Nottinghamshire author, then explore the surrounding countryside, which inspired his work.
This charming, award-winning museum & gift shop also features an exhibition space dedicated to showing how Lawrence lived a life without limits as well as showcasing the work of a new generation of local artists, keeping Lawrence’s legacy alive.
This family friendly museum offers children’s trails, vintage toys and more to keep the little ones occupied during your visit.

What’s Included?
Included in the tour admission price is the opportunity to visit the historic rooms of the Birthplace Museum, as well as a 12 minute DVD introducing Lawrence and the area, as well as exhibition space featuring a wide range of changing exhibitions which encompass Lawrence’s life and times as well as the surrounding area.
Opening Times:
The museum is open Thursday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
The museum operates a self-guided tour allowing you to drop in and take in the museum at your own pace.
Groups are welcome to the museum, with discounts for groups of 10 or more. They can also offer bespoke tours to suit the interests of your group, as well as translation sheets. Please contact the museum to discuss your requirements.
The Birthplace Museum can also be visited as part of the Blue Line Trail
Accessibility:
For those with limited mobility or special access requirements, please be aware the museum has no lift, access to the upper floors is by steep stairs only and the rooms are small with low level lighting.
The ground floor level is accessible with assistance only, via an external doorway with a single step. The museum can offer virtual tours of the upstairs and downstairs rooms on request.

Group Tours – 25% discount per head for group bookings of more than 8 people.
Concessions are available for over 60s, disabled visitors and one carer, full time students and those who are unemployed. Proof of concession may be required.
