You are here > Culture
Home to a rich variety of art galleries, theatres, cinemas and live music venues, Nottinghamshire is a top destination for a cultural break.
Across the city you will find everything from leading art galleries such as Nottingham Contemporary to the distinctive buildings designed by Victorian architect Watson Fothergill, which can still be seen today. Travel into rural Nottinghamshire and you will be rewarded with art galleries such as the Harley Gallery and Patchings Art Centre.
During your visit make sure you catch at film at Broadway Cinema or see at show at Nottingham Playhouse or Theatre Royal, which both have a varied programme of musicals, drama, comedy and more. During the summer months, you can also watch a play or film beneath the stars during outdoor theatre season.
We also have plenty of festivals to suit all interests including Splendour, the horror and cult film festival Mayhem and GameCity which celebrates video gaming culture. You can also find out about our literary culture at the Byron Festival, D.H. Lawrence Festival and Nottingham Poetry Festival.
