Get ready for the thrilling return of the Tour of Britain to Nottinghamshire this autumn! The East Midlands Combined County Authority region will host stage four of the 2024 Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men on Friday 6th September.
This will be the fifth time that the county's roads will welcome the sport's top stars, following the successful staging of the Tour of Britain by the county council in 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2023.
The stage will kick off in Derby, making it the first time that the modern race has visited the city, and then it will head through Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, before finishing in the historic town of Newark-on-Trent.
3. Proms Nottingham: BBC Young Composer
Saturday 7th September | Albert Hall Conference Centre | 5pm | Free
Be the first to hear pieces composed by the most recent winners of the BBC Young Composer competition, performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Mentored by composers Gavin Higgins and Helen Grime, tonight’s composers have been inspired by Luke Jerram’s artwork Gaia, a seven-metre-tall replica of the Earth, and by soundscapes created through a biodiversity project run by University College London’s People and Nature Lab.
4. Joe Avati: When I Was Your Age
Sunday 8th September | Nottingham Arts Theatre | 7pm | Tickets: £26
In Joe Avati's new show, he asks you to leave your political correctness at the door as he delivers his hilarious insights on how times have changed, for better or worse, since he grew up as a teenager in the 80's.
Internationally renowned for his inimitable style, Avati, who is Australian born with an Italian heritage, is a master of treading the very fine line saying what everyone seems to think but no one dares to say whilst not resorting to the use of profanities or vulgar shock tactic routines in doing so. G rated - Suitable for children aged 10 and over.
5. Nottingham Green Festival 2024
Sunday 8th September | Nottingham Arboretum | 12pm - 6pm | Free event
Nottingham Green Festival has been running for over 30 years and returns on Sunday 8th September at the Arboretum.
The Green Festival is a free event organised by volunteers and local community organisations. This fun-filled family-friendly event also has a serious intent - to share skills and knowledge to tackle the ongoing climate crisis, biodiversity loss and other environmental concerns.
It's the place for everyone to learn, explore & try the latest in everything environmentally friendly & ethical, in a beautiful setting. Have some fun with the family and help to give the planet a safer future.
