Ahead of Nottinghamshire Day on Sunday 25th August 2024, we recently got the opportunity to ask two cricketing stars from Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club at Trent Bridge about the area they call home and what they love about it.
Join in the discussion on social media with #LoveNotts or #NottinghamshireDay to share what you love about Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Lyndon James
Having been born and raised in Nottinghamshire, one of the best things about Nottingham itself is that it is big enough to have enough going on, whilst small enough that it retains that community spirit.
It has everything you’d need and want, from smaller independent cafes and restaurants in Hockley, to shopping spots at Victoria Centre and really nice picturesque areas like Wollaton Hall and Attenborough Nature Reserve if you head a little bit further out.
There are some great bars in the city like The Botanist and Mojo and those who live in, or have stopped by, Nottingham will have their own spots that they will head to because they always deliver a good night.
Personally, one of my favourite things about the county more widely is the golf courses - there are a good number, all of which seem to be in great condition year-round. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone keen for a round when visiting.
About Lyndon James: As well as playing for Nottinghamshire, Lyndon has also been selected for the England Lions squad, representing England in Sri Lanka in 2024.
Kirstie Gordon
We’ve been calling Nottinghamshire home for less than two years, but already it feels like somewhere we belong.
Work wise, we’re based in West Bridgford which has pretty much everything you could ask for, whether it’s popping down central avenue for coffee at Okende or lunch at No 8 Deli, but you’re also only a mile away from town if you’re after a livelier vibe.
A lot of us live in villages within the county, and the proximity to Nottingham itself means we get the best of both worlds when it comes to urban and rural spaces.
The city has loads going on, from somewhere like Roxy’s Ballroom which is a personal favourite, to cool places to visit like the Castle and Caves.
About Kirstie: Kirstie currently plays for Kent, The Blaze and Trent Rockets in Nottinghamshire. She previously played for Scotland before switching nationality to play for England, where she has played in the Women’s Ashes and The Hundred.
