The bank holiday this weekend brings to Nottingham some really fantastic events, so by no means should you plan to stay home. We thought it best to put together a bumper size pick of the weekend, sharing just a handful of the great things to do coming up.

Framework Knitters Museum - 29th May 2017 11am - 4pm
Nottingham has a great history within the textile world, having once been the international centre for lace making and hosiery. The Framework Knitters Museum is a unique collection of houses and workshops which celebrate all things craft, and brings to light the life of those working within the 19th century textile industry. This weekend they’re taking us back to the 1940s with their free wartime extravaganza, featuring swing dancing, vintage hairdressing, a diverse selection of refreshments and other wartime activities. Dress to the nines and swing back to the 1940s, a great day is sure to be had!
Nottingham Playhouse - Saturday 27 May 2017 from 7.30pm
The conflict in Syria can seem distant and unimaginable to most living in safe societies, and although many want to understand what is happening, we feel powerless and deceived by the skewed media accounts we most often encounter. Spring Reign is based on real-life accounts collected from Syrian refugees, aid workers, activists, and journalists. Featuring live performance, video, original music performed by Chris Davies, and frontline photography by Musa Chowdhury, this powerful piece of work drives home one of the most serious humanitarian crises of the modern day.
Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre -

If you have children to entertain or are preferring something a little whimsical this weekend, why not visit The Enchanted Fairy Forest at The Tropical Butterfly House. Don some sparkly wings and discover a magical world of tiny doors, pixie dwellings and fairy lairs throughout the fancy gardens. Guided tours, fairy-themed crafts, activities and games will be going on throughout the week, along with the usual animal encounters, Camelot adventure playground and indoor activity areas for rainy days.

For the past few years The Great Food and Drink Festival has lived up to its name, both in size and quality. A relaxing day to chill out and fill your boots in the gorgeous grounds of Nottingham Castle, there will be dozens of stalls inviting you to sample their delicious cuisines, cooking demonstrations, a real ale bar, craft stalls and live music. Some big names in the culinary world are attending this year - ‘father of Italian gastronomy’ Antonio Carluccio, Jean-Christophe Novelli, Daniel Burridge and Adam Simmonds – all demonstrating their kitchen wizardry to get you inspired to recreate their dishes at home.

Reportrait, which opens this Friday 26th May. A much celebrated subject of painting, this exhibition reflects our fascination with portraiture and its longstanding place within art history, featuring thirteen artists who have reimagined historical sources, altered or disrupted typical notions of how the portrait is defined.

The Magic Lantern Tour takes you through 150 years of dramatics, granting access to out of bounds areas, delving into the history of the building, and sharing thespian secrets of the theatrical world.
Now in its tenth year Dot to Dot Festival is a Nottingham shindig that needs no introduction. Music lovers take over the city for one day as a variety of venues open their doors and showcase talent from the UK and beyond and with one wristband you can visit any venue.
