Summer sofa launched in Nottingham

An oversized and distinctive purple sofa – the It’s in Nottingham Summer Sofa – has made its entrance and is now at Weekday Cross, close to Nottingham Contemporary, where it will remain for a week.  It will then be appearing in various locations around the city centre over the next few weeks to draw attention to all the areas that combine to make Nottingham such a great destination for shopping, eating, drinking and going out, for people who live, work and study here.  The sofa is the brainchild of the Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID) and its creation follows a recent visit to The Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen by one of its directors, Nicola Tidy.  She was so inspired by what she saw there and the effect that it had on attracting people, that she thought that it would make a great addition to Nottingham’s urban landscape this Summer.    Wherever the Summer Sofa is, people will be able to sit on it and soak up the atmosphere of the area and enjoy the various activities, competitions to win a £50 shopping voucher each week as well as offers and give-aways associated with that area.  These will be announced at 10am on various days throughout the week via It’s in Nottingham’s social media channels. Clues of the giveaways will be available at: http://www.itsinnottingham.com/independents Over the course of the next few weeks the sofa will be on Bridlesmith Gate, Pelham Street, Chapel Bar and King Street as well as in Trinity Square, The Lace Market and Hockley before making its final appearance outside Nottingham Trent University. “When I saw the giant two person seat in Copenhagen, I thought that it would be great to have something similar in Nottingham this Summer as a change from the floral trail that has been in the city for the last few years,” said Nicola Tidy, one of the directors of the Nottingham BID.  “People that have already seen the sofa have said how much they like it and hopefully it will be as successful as the one in Copenhagen in capturing the attention of people and attracting them to the areas of the city where most of our great shops, bars, restaurants, cafes and bars are located.”
