New walking tours for Nottingham city centre

Nottingham’s historic Malt Cross is launching an exciting new heritage tour telling the history of Nottingham as a city of entertainment over the ages.  The walking tours, which start on Friday 5 August, will showcase some of the city’s most famous musical and theatrical locations, telling the entertainment history of Nottingham and giving people the chance to hear tales of intrigue and hilarity about past performers and famous faces. The tour will be led by a theatrically dressed Victorian guide who will take people on a whistle-stop tour of current and former sites of merriment and glamour in the city centre. They will hear about performers who sought stardom on the stages in Nottingham and learn the unusual ways people used to amuse themselves in days gone by. Dr. Rebekah Wood, who co-ordinates Heritage Outreach for the Malt Cross said:  “Following the success of our heritage cave tours we have decided to expand our heritage tourism offer with a brand new 90 minute Entertainment History tour!  We want people to get engaged with the humorous stories of Nottingham in days gone by and learn about the events that helped to make Nottingham a great city for music, arts and culture.” Jo Cox-Brown, chief executive of the Malt Cross said: “Nottingham has an eclectic and vibrant entertainment heritage that spans several centuries. The new tours will be running at 12.00noon on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and are open to all ages. Tickets cost £6.00 for Adults, £4.50 for Concessions, £3.00 for Children under 12 and £15.00 for a Family Ticket (Max 2 Adults & 2 Children). Private and school tours are available. The building is home to a hot bed of local creativity.  There is the must see beautiful café bar, restaurant, craft shops, art gallery and record store. All the profits from trading activities are put back into the city and charitable activities that care for the people of Nottingham by making the night-time economy safer and through creating cultural opportunities and events in music, heritage and the arts. It is also preserving the unique Grade II listed Victorian saloon music hall for future generations.
