The Pied Piper is visiting Nottingham this weekend, along with William Tell, to take part in some legendary events with our very own Robin Hood across the city. We caught up with him for a quick chat ahead of his visit to the city... How long have you been the official Pied Piper of Hamelin? Over 20 years, which is nothing in the long 731 year life of the Piper (so far). Have you ever been to Nottingham before? Yes, I had the pleasure to visit in 1998 during the Castle Festival. I have the city in fond memory. Had an inspiring guided tour and good eats at the “Sheriffs Lodge” and in a Church Venue. We hear you’re a friend of Robin Hood’s. What legendary traits do you share? The sense of justice and the support of the oppressed. Just like the Loxley tale, there’s a version of the Piper as an aristocrat. My tale was also based upon a rhyme. It is not well known that I went by the name of Allan a’Dale in the early 13th Century. The Pied Piper Story is more than 700 years old. Why do you think it has stood the test of time? Just like Robin, there’s a core truth here that cannot be denied. The people of Hameln were “communally traumatized” by the event and always talked about it. The Fairy-Tale version of keeping your word and paying your debts is iconic. Do you plan on visiting any of our top attractions when you’re in Nottingham? Such as the oldest pub in England? I must admit, I missed visiting “The Trip” last time. But I suppose that in accompaniment with William Tell we will just have to crash the venue at some time. I might need to check if our Rat is still in the Caves from the previous visit. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=473929229285462&set=p.473929229285462&type=3&theater I’m quite excited about a visit to the Game City. Hoping to meet oodles of Cosplayers.
