The Major Oak Woodland Festival returns to Sherwood Forest

Today we feature a guest blog from Debbie at Rufford Abbey Tourist Information Centre on the impending Major Oak Woodland Festival at Nottinghamshire's Sherwood Forest, from the 12th - 13th September. The Robin Hood Festival is over for another year but still to come is the Major Oak Woodland Festival. If you are looking for something a bit different to do why not come along to Sherwood Forest on 12 & 13 September 2015 for this free family fun day out. This is the second year that the festival has taken place and it is hoped that it will continue to be an annual event. This special weekend celebrates the life and history of British woodland and is set in one of the most famous woodlands in the world – Sherwood Forest. There will be lots of activities taking place for all the family with demonstrations and displays. Learn all about Bodgers, see how charcoal is made or watch the chainsaw demonstrations. Meet Conservation organisations or chat to the Rangers who look after this ancient woodland. You will be able to see how traditional and modern day management techniques have shaped Sherwood’s past and made it into the forest you see today. It will be a weekend of heritage crafts, traditional toys and storytelling. The Wild Man of the Woods will be on hand to ‘talk’ to the trees. You can see bugs and critters or learn all about beekeeping. There is sure to be something for everyone. This is a free event to attend with a small charge of £3 for the car park.
