The wait is over . . . excitement as Urban Outfitters opens in Nottingham!

Urban Outfitters, which opened its 40th shop in the city’s Victoria Centre yesterday, has legions of fans and is known for its retro-inspired clothing and quirky accessories. And if you go to Nottingham’s new Urban Outfitters this weekend make sure you look out for two pieces of vintage furniture which form part of the store’s distinctive décor. The shop features two unique sofas from none other than Nottingham’s Danish Homestore. The firm, which is on Derby Road, specialises in classic Danish design and it has supplied the fashion store with a 1958 sofa designed by Erik Severin Hansen for Slagelse as well as a stunning Børge Mogensen-designed ‘Shaker’ bench from 1956. Danish Homestore has been working with Urban Outfitters for several years and has provided furniture to its stores in London, Cardiff and Glasgow, and further afield to places such as Berlin and Cologne. It all started when one of Urban Outfitters’ buyers, who is also from Nottingham, asked Danish Homestore boss Simon Harrison to supply furniture to the shop on Kensington High Street. Speaking after the launch this week, Simon said: “It was great to see the new Nottingham store after it had been on the horizon for over a year and the Severin Hansen sofa looked great on the stairs. I saw several customers enjoying it while reading the books Urban had on display with it. They seemed very relaxed and comfortable amongst all the shoppers." The Nottingham Urban Outfitters, which is in the former Dixons, Roseby’s Curtains and KFC units, features visual displays designed and created in-house from reclaimed materials and salvaged objects. It stocks up-and-coming designer brands Eleven Paris, Obey, Blood Brothers, Dr Denim along with own brand products and vintage vinyl. Nottingham is internationally linked to fashion designer Paul Smith, and boasts many top fashion brands such as Vivienne Westwood in Flying Horse Walk, Cath Kidston on Bridlesmith Gate as well as fabulous boutiques.
