My mother’s birthday was dawning and I needed to treat her as it was a celebratory number – the big six-zero. The evening before, I revealed to her that I would be taking her to the New Leaf Spa at Clumber Park Hotel and Spa near Worksop in the north of the county for a relaxing day, chilling out round the pool, lounging in the sauna and will also receive an exquisite Kamatan Hot Poultice treatment. Needless to say, she was over the moon. Clumber Park Spa foodOn our arrival, we were welcomed by attentive staff who talked us through our day. We were shown around the spa and chose our lunch before being left to relax and make the most of our mother-daughter day. The staff were always on hand if we needed an extra robe, or wanted a hot chocolate whilst chilling round the pool – it definitely made our day that little bit less hassle-free. To start our day, we hit the gym before lazing round the pool, chilling out in the outdoor jacuzzi (yes outdoor!), and lounging in the sauna. Surprisingly, the outdoor jacuzzi was bliss, even though the dash from the door was daring and rather chilly. Lunch was divine! Our choice of food was smoked chicken, bacon and baby gem on ciabatta with local handmade crisps and we ordered a side of chips. Even though the portion on the menu was classed as small, it was extremely generous and was enough to fill our bellies for the majority of the day until evening. Yum yum! Clumber Park Spa massage After lunch, we chilled out in the snug area, ordered a cup of tea and read a few of the spa's magazines and books which were on display to pass the time before we were to attend our Kamatan treatment. Massage time, and it was the best 55 minutes of my life. As part of our package, we were to receive a Kamatan treatment; a traditional Thai massage which has been practised to soothe muscle tension and stiffness on key areas of the body. A herbal poultice is warmed in muslin and then applied directly to the body. I felt like I was floating on a cloud somewhere, taken away from everything that was reality. It was definitely the icing on top of the cake to round-up our perfect day. For more information on what the New Leaf Spa offers visit their website.
