Victor cockpit moves to Newark Air Museum

Newark Air Museum, located in the east of the county, is one of the largest volunteer run aviation museums in the country. Recently, it has taken delivery of a very special piece of history. On Saturday 5th October, a Handley Page Victor cockpit was delivered to the air base as the latest exhibit to be added to its already impressive collection. The cockpit in question was originally built as an airframe and was intended to take to the skies. However it never made it to that stage and was instead used as a simulator to train crews at RAF Marham in Norfolk. Inside, the cockpit is complete with all the gadgets and technology installed when it was originally built. The intention is that this latest exhibit will play a major role in the next Tribute to the V-Force event, hosted by the museum on 17th May 2014. Later in the year the museum is also hosting the 2014 Cockpit-Fest over the weekend of 14th & 15th June. The Victor will certainly make for a great centre piece for this display. Newark Air Museum has the cockpit on a long term loan and the plan is to re-paint it in original markings. The journey for the cockpit was relatively short when it arrived on a flat-bed lorry on Saturday, making a short road trip from Lincoln. The museum is hosting its Indoor Aeroboot/Aerojumble Aviation Sale on Saturday 12th October, so be sure to make your way over to see some of the fantastic exhibits and maybe grab yourself a bargain at the same time!
