Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture. Every year in September, places across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.
Clumber Park | Friday 6th Setptember
As part of Heritage Open Days, Clumber Park will offer free admission to all on Friday 6 September.
Bromley House Library Tour | Sunday 15th September
Visit Bromley House Library with the whole family; exploring the library's longstanding connections to the city of Nottingham and its literary heritage.
Norwood Park | Saturday 7th September
The Gardens of Norwood will be open for to explore all aspects of the Estate from the Woodland Walk to the Apple Orchards. From kids crafts and activities to talks from our very own Sir John and Head Gardener Alex. Norwood is the perfect day out!
St Mary's Church, Nottingham | Saturday 14th September
Their tower, which is normally closed to the public, will open for guided tours on Saturday 14th September. Heritage displays and guided tours of the church will also be presented.
St Nic's Church, Nottingham | Saturday 7th September
To mark the repairs to St Nic's tower - funded by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund - come and find out about the history and heritage of St Nic's church, including a rebellious 4th century bishop and a Civil War skirmish.
Heritage Open Days: D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum | September 7th and 8th
Step back in time to experience the traditional Victorian wash house, see the Parlour; a room only for special guests and have a wander around the parental and other bedrooms – all completely free as part of the National Heritage Open Days.
Heritage Open Days at Mary Potter Heritage Centre | Saturday 14th September

The Adams Building is a Grade II* Listed Building in the heart of Nottingham's Lace Market. It is not normally open to the public.

Heritage Open Days - Nottingham Cathedral | September 6th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 13th and 14th
On selected days (listed below) guided tours will include the crypt, not normally open to the public, in which there will be a small exhibition. On two days there will also be short talks presenting the cathedral’s art and architecture and in particular Restoring Pugin, the new project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which plans to restore the original decoration in the eastern chapels, begun under A.W.N. Pugin in the early 1840s and probably complete by the early 1850s.
Heritage Open Days - Newstead Abbey | 7th September
As part of Heritage Open Days, Newstead Abbey’s Historic House is open to visitors for free entry, so you can explore the Historic House and discover the park. Say the phrase “Newstead celebrates Heritage Open Days” at the house reception ticket desk, to gain free entry!
Heritage Open Days Framework Knitters Museum I 15th September
This year as part of Heritage Open Days, the Framework Knitters Museum are offering free drop-in Cyanotype sessions at the museum. You can join in anytime between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday 15th September to take part in this fun, hands-on activity. Learn how to use this simple alternative photographic process to beautifully capture all manner of textures, textiles and patterns onto paper. No advance booking necessary or previous experience required.
Heritage Open Days - William Booth Museum Open House | 13th - 15th September
Explore the birthplace of Nottingham's most famous preacher and social reformer - William Booth - co-founder of the Salvation Army. Explore the Grade II listed home and step back in time to see what a lower middle-class home would have looked like in the late 1820s. Find out about Booth's early years in Nottingham and the influences that impacted him and inspired him to lead a life of service. Learn about Booth's wife, Catherine, an incredible woman who was also a writer, preacher and co-founder of the Salvation Army.
