Various Fridays | 2024 | 7.45pm - 11pm (dancing starts at 8pm)
Boat & Horses Pub
£5
Ceilidhs (pronounced "Kay-leas") are enjoyed by all ages – from youngsters' first Scottish dancing experience to old-timers out enjoying a burl.
People come dressed in jeans, full highland dress – and everything in between.
And, actually, it doesn't matter if you've been to a ceilidh before, or how many of them you've done.
The person calling the dances (Schuggie) tells everyone what they need to do, and keeps it going. Everyone dances with everyone, whether you know each other or not. The more people the better!
Everyone gets a go. No one has the chance to bust different moves, and because no one *really* knows what's going on it's very difficult to feel self-conscious. Essentially, most people are just guessing what they're supposed to be doing, and that makes it brilliant. There are lots of friendly folks to give you a hand and get everyone up dancing. We call these folks, Ceilidh Ninjas. Our ceilidhs are fun, social and inclusive. You will however need to bring along a sense of humour as half the fun of ceilidh dances is making mistakes.
Full info:
Just rock up, £5 on the door. No need to book in advance. You can pay by cash or card.
You don't need to be a member of the Nottingham Ceilidh Club to join in the fun.
Wear something comfortable to dance in.
What to expect:
You don't need to know what to do, they will be calling the dances and explaining what you need to do as you go along.
There are lots of friendly folks to give you a hand and get everyone up dancing.
Ceilidhs will be recorded to improve the dancer's experience ie how they call the dances, and to advertise future ceilidh along with improving dancers' experience. If you don't want to be included in any of these promotional videos, please let the venue know on the night.
