A heady blend of cumbia & guaracha rhythms, scorching electric guitar solos and the sun-soaked spirit of '70s Peruvian psychedelia. A legendary figure of guitar-driven tropical music of the era, featuring a full band to transport you to a world where criollo guitar crosses with vintage psychedelia.
"Manzanita's unabashed intention is to lure audiences onto the dance floor" ★★★★ – The Times
"Savour, swing, rhythm and joy distinguish the magic guitar of Manzanita" – Rhythm Passport
"The truly electrifying sounds of cumbia and guaracha music on offer burst … with exuberance and vitality guaranteed to put you in a good mood" – Folk Radio UK
Picture yourself on a surfside patio, sun-kissed and salt-haired, the magical music of Berardo 'Manzanita' Hernández bursts forth and that unmistakable twang of electric guitar cuts through the air. One of the founding fathers of the electric guitar-driven psychedelic craze of the 60s & 70s, the late Manzanita and his band paved the way for the genre that has taken the global tropical music scene by storm. His heady blend of cumbia and guaracha rhythms and lightning-fast finger lines carved a niche in the musical landscape.
His prodigious son, Berardo Hernández Jr – known as Manzanita Jr – follows in his late father's footsteps to keep the psychedelic mastery of the era alive, performing regularly across Latin America. In Manzanita's honour, he brings to the UK direct from Lima for the first time this summer with a 6-piece band of top Latin musicians from around the UK. The legacy lives on in Manzanita y Su Conjunto – La Leyenda Continúa.
