West Bridgford, the area located south of Nottingham city centre, is home to some of the region's major sporting attractions. Within just a few hundred yards of each other is the third oldest Test Match ground in the world, Trent Bridge, and the City Ground, home to two-time European Cup winners, Nottingham Forest.
Head through West Bridgford and you’ll find the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont, which boasts an impressive white water rafting course and regatta lake. Water sports aren’t compulsory though; the National Water Sports Centre is situated in Holme Pierrepont Country Park, where you can enjoy cycling, a gentle stroll or a bit of wildlife-spotting.
Given the proximity to such superb sports stadia, there are plenty of places to eat and drink. Explore the streets immediately surrounding Trent Bridge and the City Ground. You can check out Castle Rock Brewery's top notch Poppy and Pint, just a stone's throw from Trent Bridge with a great selection of beers and a varied menu, including coffee and cake, that's sure to suit all tastes.
Another winner is Brewhouse and Kitchen, situated on Trent Bridge itself, and perfect for a delicious lunch or dinner. They also match every dish on the menu to a style of beer - pretty cool, eh?! The pub also welcomes dogs and is family friendly, with a great kids menu available.
As you venture into West Bridgford, around Central Avenue and Bridgford Road, there are lots of other good quality bars, pubs and restaurants to try out. We especially love Gilt Bar Café, a popular day time café which transforms into a relaxed evening venue, serving fabulous food, and with an extensive wine list.
Visitors looking to stay near the cricket or football venues are advised to book early as rooms are in high demand. Nearby accommodation providers include Jurys Inn and Colwick Hall Hotel, just a short-walk away from the West Bridgford area. Click here to see more accomodation options.
